July 18, 2018 – Glasgow, Scotland, It’s all about the Scotch

So welcome to Scotland

Or more precisely, welcome to Greenock, the port closest to Glasgow. Now having never been here before you would think a trip to Glasgow it would be but no, we’re off to a scotch distillery.

But the tour doesn’t start till noon, so first a walk around Greenock. There really is not a lot to do in Greenock but we managed to find the Greenock Fire Museum

The museum is in an old firehall and we were treated to history lesson from a husband and wife team. The tour was actually quite interesting and there were several vintage fire engines and equipment to view. We also saw a picture of a fire brigade which included a rare appearance of a woman firefighter.

Well enough of that, we’re off to the Glengoyne Distillery

And here we are

So many different colours of scotch

And a fine selection indeed

The picture below shows some very special scotch still aging. If you look closely you will see a barrel that will be bottled in 2022 and will most likely be available for sale at a price around £20,000 to £25,000, but then again how often do you get to sample a 50-year-old bottle of scotch.

Four barrels just waiting to be bottled

Unfortunately, Glengoyne does not export scotch to Canada, but I have two bottles that I’m bring home with me. Drinks at my place.
