July 16, 2018 – Liverpool, England
Welcome to Liverpool, birthplace of the 60’s iconic band, The Beatles.
Today, the tides were not important as Liverpool has a deep channel. So today we certainly had more time to explore, and explore we did with a Beatles themed tour of Liverpool.
And here they go
From the waterfront we headed to Mathew street, where the Beatles played several times (almost 300 times) at The Cavern.
You can see The Cavern sign part way down this street
Here is the front door today
But the original front door was here. Now it is an emergency fire escape.

A number of famous singers and groups such as The Who and The Rolling Stones, got their start here as you can see by this brick wall which lists those who played here.

A close up
It was here where they were basically discovered by their manager Brian Epstein who had a record store about a block away.
A number of The Beatles songs where about real people and real places. For example, there was actually a lady by the name of Elenore Rigby (she was born in 1895).
And a statue was made to later honour her
And there is a Penny Lane
Paul McCartney signed this just two weeks before we got here
If you watch the Carpool Karaoke video on You Tube, you’ll see Paul signing his name at this spot.
In the song Penny Lane, they mention a barbershop, a bank, a roundabout and a firehall. We managed to visit all of these.
This is the actual barbershop mentioned in the song Penny Lane
And there was also an Orphanage run by the Salvation Army called Strawberry Field. John Lennon live almost next door to the Orphanage as a child and played with the kids here.
The orphanage is no longer here but the gate remains
And here is John’s childhood home
And below is Paul’s
There was also a museum dedicated to The Beatles which we toured but you are probably Beatled out by now, so I will leave you with this view of Liverpool from our ship
Tomorrow Belfast

I knew the Beatles were big but I didn't realize they were so large! You should have drunk more Guinness!
