July 13, 2018 - First stop, Gurnsey

So I skipped a day in the blog. The first three days of our trip basically was a venture to get from Vancouver to Southampton, then find our ship, our room and of course our luggage. I couldn't put anyone through one more day of "almost there" so suffice to say we made it aboard yesterday.

And here is our ship

First Stop - Gurnsey

So today we're actually closer to France than we are to what I consider Great Britain but as they say, "The sun never sets on the British Empire".

We arrived off the shores of Gurnsey at 6:00 am but as the ship was too large to dock we had to tender ashore.

After a little confusion, we made it to shore at 8:30 only to find out that nothing opens until 10:00. We later found out that on this cruise our arrival and departure times were going to be heavily reliant on the tides around the British Isles.

Our first stop was at Castle Cornet which was built over 800 years ago. The structure currently houses 5 different museums, 4 gardens and several cannons.

So a little culture and then a little shopping before heading back to the ship for our first formal night. Anchors away at 5:00 pm today.

So we told the people at Princess a little fib that today was our anniversary. Technically we were married on the 13th, it just was a different month than July.

And contrary to what I wrote earlier, it looks like the sun does set on the British Empire.

Tomorrow, Cork Ireland.

  1. Thinking a cannon might look good in your collection? I went to Guernsey as a kid - great holiday!
